Sola Fide: Justification by Faith Alone—A Crumbling Pillar?
February 10-12, 2006

Listen to the Conference on our Online Sermons Page

In February 2006,  Covenant Presbyterian Church hosted a Theology Conference on the important doctrine of justification by faith alone, a central doctrine of the Scriptures and our Reformed tradition.

This doctrine is a pillar of the Church.  The absence of this vital doctrine, or even an incorrect understanding of this truth, will lead to spiritual decline and even death of the Church.  As Martin Luther said, this is the pillar or the doctrine upon which the Church stands or falls.  Yet, as we examine ourselves, how many of our officers could deliver a clear statement of the doctrine and its importance?   How many of our parents can clearly share this truth with their children?  How many of our members can present this doctrine simply to their neighbors?  How many know and love this doctrine and would be prepared to hold it even unto death?  What implication does this have for the Church and for the generations to come?

It is in this light that we explored the doctrine of justification, as well as the corresponding doctrines of the covenant of works and the sacraments.  By the grace of God, we were led by two of the most eminently qualified speakers, scholars, and preachers available today: Dr. Morton Smith, a "founding father" of the PCA, and Rev. Richard Phillips.
