1 Corinthians Theme: ‘The correction for contamination and confusion
in the church is a concentration on Christ leading to personal holiness’or Purging the World from the Church
‘We preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.… For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve…. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.... Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body…. So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.’ (1 Cor. 1:23-24; 15:3-5; 6:11, 19-20; 10:31 ESV).
The above notes are excerpted from commentaries listed in the Schedule. They have been organized and edited together into a composite narrative, but they do not represent original material, phraseology, or ideas. I am indebted to the cited authors for their careful exegesis and explanation of the original and English texts of 1 Corinthians. DSB
