2 Corinthians Theme:
The paradox of Christian service: strength through weakness; glory through suffering

5Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God… 7But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.  8We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; 9persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; 10always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies…17For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison,18as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen.  For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal...  9For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich… 9But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”  Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.  10For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities.  For when I am weak, then I am strong.’
(2 Cor. 3:5; 4:7-10, 17-18; 8:9; 12:8-10 ESV).
